Pune police have arrested two men for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman at knifepoint in a village under Shirur taluka of Pune district on the night of March 1.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Amol Narayan Pote (25), a labourer from Shrigonda in Ahilya Nagar district, and Kishor Rambhau Kale (29), a driver from Dharur in Beed district. Police apprehended them within two hours of receiving the report.
A local court has remanded both accused in police custody until March 7 for further investigation, officials said.
According to police, the victim is a resident of Madhya Pradesh and had traveled to Pune district to visit a relative in a village under Shirur taluka.
On the night of March 1, around 11 pm, the woman was speaking to her relative at a secluded location when the two accused arrived on a two-wheeler. They threatened the woman and her relative at knifepoint and forced her relative to perform obscene acts with her, recording the act on their mobile phone.
The suspects further threatened to kill the relative and then robbed the woman of her gold ornaments before fleeing the scene.
After receiving information, a police team from the local police station quickly reached the location. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh also visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on March 2, and police are continuing their investigation into the case.
