The Haryana government has announced that it will give government jobs on priority to one member of each family that lost a loved one in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. This decision will benefit 121 families.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini made the announcement during the monsoon session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. He said the state was committed to providing justice and support to the affected families.
He shared that during the riots in Haryana, around 20 Gurudwaras, 221 houses, 154 shops, 57 factories, 3 railway coaches and 85 vehicles were set on fire. In the violence, 58 people were injured and 121 lost their lives.
The Chief Minister urged families to send the name of one eligible member, chosen with mutual consent, through the Deputy Commissioner of their district. These names will then be forwarded to the Haryana Chief Secretary. He added that instructions would soon be issued for this process.
