In a tragic and highly unusual turn of events, 25 members of a family celebrating wedding festivities were injured in a sudden wasp attack on Monday morning in Rakkad village of Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district.
The incident occurred when the groom, Naveen Singh, accompanied by his relatives, had gone to Guga temple to offer prayers as part of traditional pre-wedding rituals. Moments after they completed the puja, the group was unexpectedly swarmed and stung by a large number of wasps near the temple premises.
The sudden assault caused chaos and panic, with people running in different directions in an attempt to escape the stings.
All 25 injured individuals were rushed to Nadaun Hospital for immediate medical attention. According to Dilip Singh, the groom’s father, the victims are currently undergoing treatment at the facility.

Health officials have confirmed that five members of the family are in critical condition, while several others, including the groom himself, have sustained serious injuries. What began as a joyful family gathering has turned into a deeply distressing situation, prompting a temporary halt to the wedding celebrations.
This incident comes just two days after another insect attack in the state, where two women in Kar Yalag (Jol) village of Bilaspur district were stung by honey bees while cutting grass. Experts note that wasps, unlike honey bees, are carnivorous and often aggressive, feeding on insects and spiders.
Their painful stings and unpredictable behaviour make them a threat in such unexpected encounters, whereas honey bees, which are herbivorous and vital for pollination, usually sting only when provoked.
