At least 26 people, including a child, were injured after a tempo in which they were travelling overturned in the Dhusada area of Una district late Friday night. The accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with another vehicle, the police said on Saturday.
According to officials, most of the injured are migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who had travelled to Panoh for agricultural work earlier in the day. The accident took place when they were returning.
Following the incident, local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing the victims' screams for help. Emergency services, including 108 ambulances, transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
One child sustained serious injuries and was referred to PGI Chandigarh for advanced medical care.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav confirmed that an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
