At least three army soldiers were killed on Sunday after their truck rolled down into a 600-foot-deep gorge near the battery Chashma area on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Ramban district, officials said.
An official informed the reporters that the truck fell after its driver lost control, resulting in the loss of three lives.
He said that soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched; however, three soldiers had already lost their lives in the accident.
He added, “The truck was coming from the Jammu side towards Kashmir.” The deceased soldiers were identified as Amit Kumar, Sujit Kumar, and Man Bahadur.
After the incident took place, a rescue operation involving the Police, Army, SDRF, and civil QRT Ramban volunteers was underway, while police have taken cognisance of the incident.
Earlier on April 14, an old woman was killed and ten relatives were injured after a mini truck that they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a small ditch, narrowly escaping death in the Ramban district.
The members belonged to the Bakerwal nomadic community and were pulled towards Kashmir from the Rajouri district. The visit was part of their biannual migration.
The accident took place near a railway bridge in Banihal at the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The injured were evacuated to a nearby hospital, and the condition of two has been reported as critical.
