Jharkhand's Excise Minister, Yogendra Prasad, announced that 34.23 lakh households have received tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission. However, he said the project is moving slowly because the central government has not released its share of funds.
Responding to BJP MLA Satyendra Nath Tiwary in the assembly, Prasad stated that while the target is to provide tap water to 62.55 lakh households, only 34.23 lakh have received connections so far. The original deadline of December 2024 has now been extended to December 2028.
He claimed that the state is waiting for ₹6,500 crore from the Centre, even after submitting the required documents. Once the pending funds are released, the project will progress faster.
Tiwary also alleged corruption in the scheme’s implementation, but Prasad denied the accusations.
During the session, Congress MLA Sweta Singh raised concerns about villagers living on lands acquired by companies, saying they are not receiving government benefits. Chief Minister Hemant Soren assured that the government would discuss the issue with the companies to ensure these people get basic facilities.
