Kangra police in Himachal Pradesh have apprehended four persons and seized 4.04 kilograms of charas during a coordinated anti-drug operation, officials said on Wednesday.
Acting on specific information received during routine patrolling, a police team stopped an Alto K-10 car within the jurisdiction of Panchrukhi police station on Monday and recovered the contraband, Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan said.
Two accused — Gopal (24), a resident of Khunn village, and Surendra Kumar (37) from Dagut village in Kullu district — were apprehended on the spot. They have been booked under Sections 20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During further investigation and technical analysis, police found that the accused were linked to a larger drug trafficking network. The two were allegedly transporting the charas consignment to key operators Kamaljeet Singh alias ‘Kaku’ (39) and Sangam Sharma alias ‘Golu’ (26), both residents of Palampur in Kangra district.
A special police team carried out multiple raids and arrested the two alleged main traffickers within 18 hours on Tuesday, officials said. Police said the investigation is continuing to identify and trace other members of the wider drug network involved in the case.
