A horrific road accident occurred when a school bus overturned near the village of Unhani in Mahendragarh. In this accident, five children lost their lives, and 15 were seriously injured. The school was open despite Eid on Thursday, which is a gazetted holiday. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are questioning school officials.
Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the scene and are investigating the matter. The injured have been taken to the civil hospital for treatment.
It is reported that the accident was caused by overspeeding. The seriously injured children have been referred to Rewari for further treatment.
As per reports, the bus belonging to GL Public School overturned near Unhani village of Kanina. It was carrying around 40 children and was heading towards the school.
According to Mahendragarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arsh Verma, initial findings suggest that the driver may have been intoxicated, supported by accounts from villagers who claimed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Verma mentioned that the driver's blood samples have been sent for testing, and conclusive results will be available upon receipt of the reports.
Dr Ravi Kaushik of Nihal Hospital in Mahendragarh said four students were brought dead, and one critical student who was on a ventilator succumbed to injuries.
"Four students were brought dead, and one critical student who was put on a ventilator passed away at the hospital. Fifteen injured students have been referred to another hospital. SDM and administration present," said Dr Ravi Kaushik.
The official documents of the bus showed that the fitness certificate had expired six years ago, in 2018.
Reacting to the accident, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda said: "The news of the tragic death of several children and injury of many children in the unfortunate school bus accident near Unhani in Narnaul is painful." He added, "I express my deepest condolences to the families who lost their children in this accident. I pray to God that the children injured in the bus accident recover as soon as possible."
SP Verma stated that the injured driver has been apprehended, and an FIR will be filed against him. Additionally, Verma noted that the school authorities have been asked to provide an explanation regarding the decision to keep the institution operational on a public holiday.
