Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Monday that around 562 Vidya Bharati schools are currently running across the state and providing education to nearly 1.25 lakh students.

 

Speaking about the organisation, Dhami said Vidya Bharati had expanded its presence across villages and households in the state. He said the organisation had played an important role in reaching people and supporting them during difficult times. "I have been associated with these organisations, so I know the contribution made by Vidya Bharati teachers and office bearers during challenging times. Today, around 562 schools are functioning and providing education to 1.25 lakh students," he said.

 

Earlier, Dhami attended the 'Pratibha Samman Ceremony' organised by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan at the Government Secondary School in Roorkee, Haridwar district.

 

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the Uttarakhand government had taken steps to promote the state's rich cultural heritage, traditional handicrafts and local products at the national and international levels.

 

He said 27 products from the state had received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. According to Dhami, the recognition has helped give these products a distinct identity while opening up new markets, better prices and more employment opportunities for local producers, farmers, artisans and people involved in handicrafts.

 

Earlier, on July 25, Dhami attended a state-level workshop of the Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan in Dehradun. The programme was organised to mark the 650th birth anniversary year of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Maharaj and was held at a local hotel on Tyagi Road.

 

Paying tribute to the revered saint, Dhami said Guru Ravidas' teachings and ideals continue to remain relevant in today's society.

 

The Chief Minister said the life and teachings of Sant Ravidas reflect India's rich cultural traditions and have encouraged society to follow the values of equality, humanity, social justice and harmony. He said Ravidas inspired people to challenge social evils such as untouchability, discrimination and caste-based inequality.
