Six people were killed and seven others were injured when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were in crashed into a truck in Chhattisgarh's Balod district, police said on Monday.
The accident happened late Sunday night in the Daundi police station area. The victims, who were from Gunderdehi, were returning from a family event when the collision occurred.
"The SUV collided head-on with the truck. Out of the 13 people in the SUV, six died instantly, and seven others were seriously injured," a police official said.
The deceased were identified as Durpat Prajapati (30), four women - Sumitra Bai Kumbhkar (50), Manisha Kumbhkar (35), Sagun Bai Kumbhkar (50), and Imla Bai (55) - and a seven-year-old boy, Jignesh Kumbhkar.
The seven injured, including five women and a child, were taken to a local health center and then referred to Rajnandgaon district hospital for further treatment.
An accidental death report has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, the official added.
