Streets outside the premises of Kathua Jail saw a massive crowd assembling in support of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik after he was released by the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Tuesday.
As he walked out of the jail, supporters started dancing and celebrated the High Court verdict in favour of their leader. Malik, known for his outspoken and unapologetic personality, has earned recognition among both politicians and the public alike.
During his brief media interaction outside the jail, he said, “Youth need to enter politics to usher positive change in the country.” He added that “Youth must rise above religious divisions and focus on the welfare and betterment of humanity.”
“My political struggle is aimed at reform and public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir. Our struggle will continue. It will not change. It is not a struggle based on politics but on ideas and the drive for people’s welfare,” Malik told reporters here.
When asked about his struggles in jail, Malik said, “I had gone to jail while fighting for the rights of the people. It was for the people, and this struggle will continue.”
In an emotionally charged appeal, Malik said, “I am alone right now. I want youth to join politics. Only politics can change the fate of the people and this country.”
Responding to another query, he denied mellowing down his stance and said, “Working for humanity is both my passion and my duty. Every religion teaches us to serve humanity, and people must move away from politics based on religion.”
The leader also apologised to his supporters for the hardships they faced during his imprisonment and expressed gratitude for their continued support.
Malik said, “Many told me that if I had acted differently, I might not have gone to jail. But if I had not stepped forward, someone else would have.” “Acting wisely is important, but acting upright is also important,” he added.
