Days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the Hindu Raksha Dal on Thursday allegedly issued online threats targeting Kashmiri students residing in Dehradun, demanding they leave the state immediately.
Fearing for their safety, several students approached the local police for protection. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh convened a meeting with circle officers and station house officers (SHOs) of different police stations and directed then to ensure heightened vigilance and stay connected with Kashmiri students to address any security concerns.
SSP Singh also directed educational institutions and managers of paying guest accommodations where Kashmiri students reside to alert the police immediately if any threat is perceived. The authorities have already taken action by removing over two dozen objectionable posts from social media platforms.
Nasir Khuehami, convener of the Kashmiri student association, confirmed that the matter had been taken up with Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth. "We have spoken to the DGP of Uttarakhand Deepam Seth regarding the open threats issued by members of Hindu Raksha Dal to Kashmiri students, including an ultimatum asking them to leave the state. We’ve been told an FIR has been registered and arrests will follow shortly."
Dehradun SSP visited Kashmiri students in Prem Nagar, Sudhowala, Nanda ki Chowki and Selaqui areas to ensure their safety and instill confidence among them.
