A Delhi-Indore Air India Express flight with 161 passengers on board landed safely on Friday morning after the pilot raised an emergency call over a suspected engine fault during descent.
The IX 1028 flight, scheduled to land at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport at 9.35 am, touched down twenty minutes later after the crew detected a suspected oil filter issue mid-air. Airport officials confirmed that all passengers and crew were unharmed.
Vipinkant Seth, Director of the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, said all emergency arrangements were activated as soon as the alert was raised. “After receiving information about a technical fault in one of the engines of the Air India Express plane coming from Delhi to Indore, we took all precautions and the aircraft landed at the Indore airport at 9.55 am. As per the schedule, it was supposed to land at 9.35 am,” he said.

The pilot of the flight transmitted a ‘PAN-PAN’ signal, an internationally recognised code indicating urgency but not immediate danger, to Air Traffic Control. Fire and medical teams were deployed as per protocol, Seth added.
Air India Express later clarified the nature of the issue. A company spokesperson said, “Due to a suspected oil filter issue during descent into Indore, following standard operating procedures, the crew landed safely. Our pilots are well-trained to carry out such precautionary measures.”
The passengers were deboarded without incident. Authorities noted that the prompt response of the crew and ground teams ensured that what could have become a crisis ended without harm.
