An Air India flight from Mumbai to Jodhpur was forced to abort take-off on Friday after the cockpit crew reported an operational issue, prompting the aircraft to return to the bay.
The airline confirmed that Flight AI645 discontinued its take-off run in line with standard operating procedures. “The Flight AI645 operating from Mumbai to Jodhpur on August 22 returned to the bay due to an operational issue. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back,” an Air India spokesperson was quoted as saying.
Passengers were later accommodated on alternative flights to Jodhpur. The carrier said arrangements were also made for hotel stays, refunds, or complimentary rescheduling where necessary.
Some passengers reported that the take-off was aborted due to an engine problem.

The latest disruption comes just days after the airline cancelled its Zurich-Delhi service of August 17, citing technical reasons and the subsequent night curfew at Zurich airport. The airline had earlier stated that it had carried out a “detailed inspection” of its Boeing 787 fleet with “no issues” detected.
Air India has faced at least two last-minute cancellations in the past 48 hours, including one international service, because of technical concerns. The Tata-owned airline said intensified safety checks have led to delays and cancellations but insisted these measures were necessary.
The heightened scrutiny of aircraft operations follows the June 12 tragedy in Ahmedabad, where an Air India Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 of the 242 passengers on board.
