Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has intensified security arrangements following a threatening email warning to “blow up the campus.”
The email, which reportedly also demanded ransom money, was received by top university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, prompting swift action by police and university authorities.
Superintendent of Police (City) Mrigank Shekhar Pathak stated, “Checking at all sensitive areas in and around the campus has been ongoing since last evening.”
Police, along with dog squads, have been deployed at key points inside the campus, while the Cyber Crime Cell is working to trace the origins of the threat.
AMU spokesperson Asim Siddiqui confirmed that the authorities reported the matter immediately to the police. "The email letter also mentions 'ransom money'," Siddiqui said, adding that the university is taking no chances.
Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Abhay Pandey explained that investigations are underway to determine whether the threat is genuine or a hoax intended to disturb the peace.
The incident comes amid a wave of bomb threats reported in recent months across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Just this week, Delhi Police detained a Class 12 student for sending similar threats to educational institutions in the national capital.
While no evidence has yet emerged to suggest a direct link between the threats, authorities remain on high alert, especially at crowded areas within the AMU campus, including the Maulana Azad Library.
