In light of recent border tensions and the newly declared ceasefire with Pakistan, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared the state's ongoing response during an all-party meeting on Saturday.

Chief Minister Mann commended the united stance of religious organisations during the crisis, asserting Punjab’s enduring commitment to national security.

“Punjab has always been and will remain at the forefront for security and the nation's cause,” he said, welcoming the ceasefire as a positive development while stressing the need for sustained preparedness.

Mann announced plans to visit border districts on Sunday to interact with residents and assess conditions on the ground. Urging residents not to gather near crash sites of downed drones or missiles, he highlighted an army advisory warning of potential hazards in such locations.

He reaffirmed that all current security advisories will remain in effect based on army guidance. The chief minister also noted that discussions with the Governor included concerns over land located beyond the border fencing.

Governor Kataria praised the Indian armed forces for their swift and effective action in intercepting Pakistani drones, which minimised damage and prevented casualties.

“I salute our courageous soldiers,” he said, adding that those responsible for targeting civilians must be held accountable, regardless of the ceasefire.

Kataria assured the public that he too would visit border regions to connect with residents and review the situation. He promised compensation for any losses suffered and confirmed that the Border Development Fund would be revitalised to strengthen infrastructure and services in border areas.

The governor also emphasised the need for enhanced measures to support residents and curb cross-border drug smuggling, particularly through drone activity.

All political parties present at the meeting agreed to collectively approach the Prime Minister, seeking a special assistance package for Punjab to bolster border security and development.

Both the Governor and Chief Minister underscored Punjab’s steadfast resolve to protect its citizens and remain vigilant, even amid diplomatic breakthroughs.
