Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Jammu and Kashmir this week, sources said on Tuesday. This will be his first visit after India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan to avenge the brutal killings of 26 people by Pakistan-backed terrorists on April 22 in Baisaran meadow of the Pahalgam.
Sources told reporters here that Shah will visit the Union Territory on May 29 and 30. They said Shah is also expected to meet the victims of cross-border shelling in Poonch, which has been devastated during the cross-border shelling from 7 May to 10.
India launched Operation Sindoor to destroy terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead on April 22.
Earlier, the 5-member Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation, after visiting the cross-border shelling-hit Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu & Kashmir, slammed the Centre for neglecting the families living in border areas.
The members of the delegation said that they were returning with “broken hearts” after witnessing the human tragedy caused by Pakistani shelling.
The Trinamool Congress delegation consisted of MPs Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghose, and Mohd Nadimul Haque, Bengal minister Manas Bhunia, and former parliamentarian Mamatabala Thakur.
Before them, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also visited the Jammu and Kashmir region. He was among the first leaders to visit the place after both sides had agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
He was briefed by top military leadership regarding the responses given to the Pakistani army after the operation Sindoor.
The defence minister reviewed the overall situation as well as the combat readiness of the frontline troops at the Indian Army’s XV Corps in Srinagar.
India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure early on May 7, following which Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Pakistani actions were strongly responded to by the Indian side.
