In a move that has brought significant relief to the state workforce just before Sankranti, the Andhra Pradesh government has officially cleared the decks for long-overdue employee promotions. The coalition government, making good on a key campaign promise, has laid out a strict, 20-day "mission mode" schedule to ensure that eligible staff across all departments finally move up the career ladder.

The announcement follows recent high-level talks between Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and various employee unions. While Naidu had previously been transparent about the state's tight finances, he has shifted focus toward non-monetary career benefits as an immediate gesture of goodwill.

Chief Secretary K Vijayanand has issued a firm directive to all department heads and secretaries, leaving no room for bureaucratic delays. According to the urgent memo, the entire process — from Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) to the final paperwork — must be wrapped up by January 31. Crucially, the government has mandated that this shouldn't be a one-off event; from now on, promotions will follow this exact calendar every single year to prevent future backlogs. The timeline is incredibly tight: Heads of Departments have until January 21 to submit their proposals. These must reach the General Administration Department (GAD) by the 23, with the DPC reviews concluded by the 29. The final Government Orders (GOs) are expected to be in the hands of employees by the last day of the month.

District Collectors have been put on high alert to oversee the rollout and ensure no hitches occur at the local level. While employees have widely celebrated this "Sankranti gift," many are now looking toward the government for the next phase of relief— specifically the settlement of pending DA arrears and PRC dues.
