Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Friday inaugurated SAEL Limited’s 600 MW solar power projects in Kadapa district, marking a significant milestone in the state’s expanding renewable energy sector. The launch of the twin solar projects represents one of the largest clean energy developments undertaken in Andhra Pradesh in recent years.

The two projects — SAEL Solar MHP1 and SAEL Solar MHP2 — were completed within a record timeframe of just 11 months at a combined investment of nearly Rs 3,000 crore. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Lokesh said the successful completion of the projects demonstrates Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to rapid industrial development and large-scale clean energy expansion.

“The commissioning of these projects reflects Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to fast-paced industrial growth and clean energy expansion,” Lokesh stated during the event.

Spread over more than 2,400 acres in Kadapa district, the integrated solar power facility is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a major destination for renewable energy investments in India. The projects are part of the state government’s broader push to attract green energy companies and accelerate sustainable infrastructure development.

The two 300 MW units, operated by SAEL Solar MHP1 Private Limited and SAEL Solar MHP2 Private Limited, began commercial operations earlier this year. While MHP1 commenced operations on January 30, MHP2 became operational on March 13.

The projects utilise more than 12 lakh advanced TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) bifacial solar modules, which are known for higher energy efficiency and improved power generation. A majority of these modules were assembled at SAEL’s manufacturing facilities located in Punjab and Rajasthan.

Power generated from the projects will be supplied to the national grid under a long-term 25-year power purchase agreement signed with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The initiative is expected to make a substantial contribution to India’s renewable energy capacity and long-term sustainability goals.

According to officials, the projects are expected to help reduce nearly 11 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, significantly contributing to environmental conservation efforts. Besides supporting clean energy generation, the projects are also expected to boost the local economy and create long-term livelihood opportunities in the region.

The company said farmers in the area are likely to benefit through land lease agreements extending up to 25 years, ensuring stable and sustained income opportunities for local landowners.

Developed under SAEL’s integrated engineering, procurement, construction and operations framework, the projects received support from the Andhra Pradesh government and local authorities, particularly in securing approvals, land access and grid connectivity infrastructure.

The inauguration comes at a time when Andhra Pradesh is actively implementing its Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024. Under the policy, the state aims to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore across sectors such as renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission infrastructure and manufacturing.

SAEL Limited is also exploring additional investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in renewable energy expansion and agriculture waste-to-energy initiatives, which are expected to further strengthen the state’s clean energy ecosystem in the coming years.
