Haryana Assembly witnessed a moment of lighthearted camaraderie as senior BJP leader and minister Anil Vij engaged in a playful exchange with Congress veteran and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, leading to bursts of laughter among the members present.
The light-hearted interaction took place towards the end of the day’s proceedings, turning an otherwise serious legislative session into an amusing spectacle.
During the discussion on various bills, Hooda stood up and, referring to one of them, made a witty remark directed at Vij, saying, "You will not understand this." Taking it further, he quipped, "'Tere jaise nahi samajh sakte' (people like you won’t understand)," a comment that sent ripples of laughter across the House.
Not one to miss an opportunity for a quick-witted retort, Vij, a seven-time legislator known for his sharp comebacks, immediately countered, saying, "Samajh toh mujhe sab aa gaya, mein gane ke madhyam se batana chahta hu" (I have fully understood, but I want to express it through a song).
He then broke into an impromptu rendition of the satirical line, "'Humne unko bhi chup-chup ke jaate dekha un galiyon mein...'" while pointing towards Hooda. His playful reference, delivered in a typical Haryanvi manner, once again sent the House into fits of laughter.
Adding to the light-hearted atmosphere, Hooda rose from his seat and, in a jesting manner, declared, "When Vij will speak, we will put fingers in our ears," evoking yet another wave of amusement from the assembly members.

However, the banter soon took a political turn when Vij, who holds key portfolios including energy, transport, and labor, reminded the House of past legislative sessions under the Congress-led government.
He alleged that during Hooda’s tenure as Chief Minister, opposition members were often suspended from the Assembly before the passage of bills, effectively silencing them.
Recalling an incident from that time, Vij narrated, "I have been an MLA for 25 years and have seen many bills being passed. I witnessed Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s tenure as well and saw how bills were passed back then… We were not even allowed to speak."
In a particularly striking anecdote, he shared how the Congress government preemptively removed him from the House, anticipating his objection to a bill, even though he had decided to remain silent on that occasion.
The amusing exchange between Vij and Hooda, though rooted in political criticism, added a moment of levity to the Assembly proceedings, showcasing the lighter side of legislative interactions in Haryana’s political landscape.
