During a meeting held at J&K Raj Bhawan, LG Manoj Sinha, on Thursday stated that his administration is working to scrutinise plans and preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Sinha, who also serves as chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, is tasked with ensuring the Yatra proceeds smoothly and in an organised manner.
Official sources indicate that the Yatra is scheduled to commence on June 29 and last for 52 days, concluding on Rakshabandhan.
“Following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha Polls, the administration will turn its focus to Shri Amarnath preparations, set to begin from June 29 and wrap up on August 19,” sources added.
They further mentioned that “registration for the Yatra is anticipated to commence later next month at branches of various banks.”
“Upon the official announcement of the Yatra, subsequent preparations will be undertaken expeditiously,” they elaborated.
The live telecast of Aarti for the Yatra is slated to commence in July. In 2023, approximately 4.5 lakh pilgrims visited Shri Amarnath Cave.
As per media reports, registration for this will commence on April 15. It is worth noting that physical fitness is a prerequisite to participate in this Yatra. Compliance with the criteria and obtaining a medical certificate are also mandatory.
Amarnath Cave is a naturally formed cave near Anantnag, Kashmir, situated at an elevation of 3800 metres. It is regarded as one of the most challenging pilgrimage destinations in India.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva disclosed the secret of his immortality to Goddess Parvati at Amarnath Cave.
The Shivling in Amarnath Cave is naturally composed of ice, formed when water dripping from the cave's roof freezes.
The shape of this icy Shivling changes as the moon waxes and wanes. The conclusion of the Yatra coincides with the observance of Shobhan Yoga.
