A 48-year-old Army officer, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the parking area of a residential housing colony in Ranchi, Jharkhand, early Tuesday morning.
Police officials confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The officer has been identified as Lieutenant Colonel Diwakar Kumar, who was posted at the Station Headquarters in Ranchi. Originally hailing from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Kumar was residing at the Khelgaon housing complex, where the tragic incident took place. The complex falls under the jurisdiction of the Khelgaon Police Station.
According to preliminary reports from the police, it appears that Kumar fell from the terrace of an eight-storey building within the housing complex. However, authorities are investigating whether the fall was an accident or an intentional act of suicide.
“Prima facie, it seems that the officer fell from the terrace. However, we are probing all possible angles, including the possibility of suicide or an unfortunate accident,” a senior police officer stated.
The police have also begun questioning residents and security personnel at the housing complex to gather additional details that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
Further investigations revealed that Diwakar Kumar had been undergoing treatment for depression-related issues for some time. His family members have confirmed that he was seeking medical help for his condition.

According to statements from his relatives, Kumar had dinner on Monday night and subsequently went to the terrace of the building, from where he is believed to have fallen.
His lifeless body was discovered early Tuesday morning by a neighbour, who immediately informed the authorities. Following the report, a police team arrived at the scene and conducted an initial examination. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officials have assured that a detailed inquiry is underway. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the building, speaking to witnesses, and analyzing Kumar’s recent activities to piece together the sequence of events leading up to his demise.
Meanwhile, the Army authorities have been informed about the incident, and Kumar’s family has been notified. His sudden and tragic death has left the residents of the housing complex and his colleagues in shock.
The police have urged the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is concluded, and further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
