Arunachal Pradesh is set to host two major events celebrating its rich biodiversity and adventure tourism, showcasing its unique natural and cultural heritage.
The Eaglenest Bird Festival, in its fourth edition, will be held from 17 to 19 January 2024 at Khellong and Thongre villages in West Kameng district.
Recognised as a flagship event in the state’s calendar, the festival will highlight the ecological treasures of the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, home to endangered birds and wildlife.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein invited nature enthusiasts through social media, urging them to "plan a trip to Arunachal Pradesh this New Year to experience its incredible biodiversity and join hands in fostering community-driven efforts to conserve the region’s wildlife and ecosystems."
Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently unveiled the festival's new logo during the Mon Sergyeling and Mon Rigzung Sergyeling Festival in Tawang.
This year’s edition will focus on promoting eco-tourism, sustainable development, and conservation initiatives while celebrating the region’s avian diversity through the popular Birdathon event.
A key feature of the festival will be the declaration of a trail tracing the historic route of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This trail, significant for its cultural and spiritual relevance, will highlight Arunachal Pradesh’s deep connection with nature and spirituality.
Additionally, the festival will inaugurate the Eco Bio-Diversity Park, featuring a tree planted by the Dalai Lama during his 1959 visit.
Adventure trekking events will also be organised, allowing participants to explore the pristine landscapes of the sanctuary.
In a parallel initiative, Arunachal Pradesh will host the 3rd National Adventure Racing Championship from 17 to 20 April 2025 in the picturesque town of Mechuka, often referred to as the "Hidden Paradise of the Northeast."
The event, titled Adventure @ Mechuka, is aimed at promoting adventure sports, border tourism, and eco-tourism.
Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona made the announcement on social media, stating, “Get ready for Adventure @ Mechuka! Arunachal Pradesh is thrilled to host the 3rd National Adventure Racing Championship 2025 in collaboration with Nth Adventure from 17 to 20 April. Known as the world’s toughest team sport, Adventure Racing blends endurance, tradition, culture, and eco-tourism, spotlighting Mechuka as a premier adventure tourism destination."
The championship, open to participants from across India, offers winners a chance to represent the country at the ARWS Asia Regional Championship.
The minister added, “Mark your calendars and experience the spirit of adventure, human resilience, and the breathtaking beauty of Mechuka!”
