“As the monsoon continues, Himachal is facing more losses,” said former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur. He visited Bali Chowk to see the destruction caused by flash floods and also distributed relief material. Thakur added that his own area has been badly hit too.
"Just as monsoon progresses, the incidents of losses are increasing across the state... I went to the Bali Chowk, which has suffered damage, and distributed relief material... My region has also suffered immense damage," he added.
According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 482 roads are blocked, including two national highways. Nearly 950 electricity transformers are out of service and 95 water supply schemes are disrupted across the state.
Since June 20, the death toll has reached 298. Of these, 152 people died in landslides, flash floods, and house collapses, while 146 lost their lives in road accidents.
Roads in Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba are the worst affected. In Mandi alone, 245 roads are blocked. NH-305 and NH-154A remain closed due to heavy rain and landslides. Even alternate routes in areas like Balichowki and Kandugad are not usable.
Water supply has also been hit badly. In Mandi and Chamba districts, 36 schemes each are disrupted. Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kullu are facing similar shortages, leaving many rural areas without drinking water.
