Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that Assam cannot be led by leaders who maintain frequent contacts with Pakistan, in apparent reference to state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi. Addressing a rally of panchayat representatives, Shah claimed the BJP-led NDA is poised to form a third consecutive government in Assam next year, on the strength of the developmental works of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"PM Narendra Modi carried out immense developmental works across the country, and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took that flow to every household of the state. On the back of these works, the BJP-led NDA will form the government in Assam for the third consecutive term next year," Shah said.

He sharply criticised the Congress, asserting the state cannot be represented by leaders who sympathise with infiltrators, encourage encroachments, or engage in corruption. "Assam cannot be led by people who visit Pakistan frequently," Shah said, alluding to Gogoi. The Home Minister echoed the BJP's long-standing allegations about Gogoi's British wife, Elizabeth Colburn, reportedly visiting Pakistan multiple times.

Shah highlighted the party’s efforts to reclaim encroached lands, particularly those belonging to Vaishnavite monasteries, asserting that 1,29,548 acres of land had been freed from illegal occupation. "Even if Gaurav Gogoi opposes, the BJP will clear every inch of encroached land from infiltrators. You can do whatever you like, we won't stop," he said.

He also spoke of social initiatives by the state government, including scholarships for over nine lakh girls and measures against infiltrators who exploited minors. On recent rural polls, Shah emphasised the Congress’ decline, claiming the party was “wiped out” from Assam’s panchayats.

The Union Home Minister praised Modi’s focus on the Northeast, citing the construction of a 125-feet statue of Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, translation of his biography into 23 languages, and the signing of over Rs 5 lakh crore worth of MoUs during the Advantage Assam summit. He also flagged the Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor factory by the Tatas in Jagiroad as a key milestone.

Shah further highlighted security initiatives, claiming that over 10,000 youths have laid down arms and multiple peace accords have been signed with militant groups. He praised the Modi government’s counter-terror operations, including Operation Sindoor targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan, stating: "Earlier, terrorists would attack and flee without consequence, but under PM Modi, we entered their homes and eliminated terror hideouts."
