Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rajiv Ranjan, posted at the Fulkaha police station in Araria, succumbed to injuries sustained during a clash with villagers while attempting to arrest a wanted criminal at a wedding ceremony in Laxmipur village.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Forbesganj Mukesh Kumar Saha, the police had gone to arrest Anmol Yadav, an accused in cases under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the operation, the police successfully detained Yadav.
However, local villagers confronted the officers and managed to free him, leading to an altercation.
“Anmol Yadav, a criminal, was reported to be attending a wedding in Laxmipur village. Acting on this information, the police, including the station in-charge, an ASI, and other officers, conducted a raid and arrested him. The police went there and arrested him, but the local villagers entered into an altercation with the police, and they managed to release Anmol Yadav,” DSP Saha.

During the commotion, ASI Ranjan collapsed. He was rushed to Forbesganj hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The police have since detained three to four individuals in connection with the incident, and further investigations are underway.
The martyred sub-inspector was a resident of Munger. His body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. A wave of grief has swept through the police department following his demise.
Authorities have intensified efforts to track down Yadav and those involved in the attack on the police team.
Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, and additional personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
