Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday transferred Rs 1,100 each to the bank accounts of more than 94 lakh beneficiaries covered under various social security pension schemes run by the state government.
The transfer was made at a programme in Patna and covered beneficiaries under six schemes meant for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office, the pension amount was transferred on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing the longest tenure as an elected prime minister in the country.
“On the occasion of Narendra Modi completing the longest tenure as an elected prime minister, the CM transferred a pension of Rs 1,100 each directly to the bank accounts of more than 94 lakh beneficiaries. The CM said providing social security to Bihar's poor, deprived, and needy sections is the responsibility of his government,” the statement said.
Addressing the gathering, Choudhary reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring financial support for vulnerable sections of society, including the elderly, widows and persons with disabilities.

The Bihar government had last year enhanced the monthly pension amount under these schemes from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100, nearly tripling the assistance provided to beneficiaries.
The chief minister also announced that pension payments would henceforth be credited to beneficiaries' bank accounts on the 10th day of every month, bringing greater predictability to the disbursal process.
He urged all eligible persons aged 60 years and above who are not currently receiving pension benefits to apply for inclusion under the schemes.
The Social Welfare Department administers six pension schemes in the state. These include the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme and the Bihar State Disability Pension Scheme.
The government said the schemes are aimed at strengthening social security coverage and providing financial assistance to economically vulnerable sections of society across Bihar.
