Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arvind Sharma on Thursday filed his nomination for the upcoming bypoll to the Bihar Legislative Council, which was necessitated after former minister Mangal Pandey was elected to the state assembly.
Sharma submitted his nomination papers at the Assembly secretariat in the presence of Samrat Choudhary, along with several leaders from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Among those present were Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi, Janata Dal (United) state chief Umesh Kushwaha and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Raju Tiwari.

The by-election has been necessitated after Pandey, a former state president of the BJP, vacated his Legislative Council seat following his victory in the Siwan Assembly constituency in November last year. His move to the lower house created the vacancy that Sharma is now contesting.
Party sources indicated that Sharma’s candidature reflects the BJP’s effort to maintain its organisational strength in the Legislative Council while ensuring continuity in leadership. According to the bypoll schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 4, while polling for the seat is set to take place on May 12.
The results of the by-election are expected to play a role in shaping the political balance within the Bihar Legislative Council, where the NDA alliance continues to hold significant influence.
