BJP betrayed Kaushal Karmis, power users: Hooda alleges

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has strongly criticised the BJP, accusing the party of repeatedly betraying the public by failing to fulfill its promises since coming to power.

Speaking at a press conference held at his Delhi residence, Hooda expressed concerns over several pressing issues, including the recent hike in electricity rates, the dismissal of Kaushal Karmis, and the prolonged delay in the construction of Hisar airport.

Hooda pointed out that while the BJP claimed to present a budget in the Assembly without imposing any new taxes, the government contradicted itself almost immediately after the session ended by increasing electricity rates. He accused the BJP of deceiving the public and continuing a pattern of exploitation.

According to him, the new electricity tariffs have been raised by up to 40 paise per unit, with the introduction of new slabs that will unfairly burden consumers. He alleged that this move will allow the government to collect an estimated ₹5,000 crore from the public.

Hooda further criticised the government's past decisions, stating that the administration had already ordered the recovery of Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) from consumers at a rate of about ₹95 per 200 units. He accused the BJP of making continuous anti-people decisions that are damaging the financial wellbeing of ordinary citizens.

The rate hikes, he emphasised, were not limited to domestic consumers but also impacted industries, which is leading to a steady exodus of businesses from Haryana. Unlike other states that offer incentives and subsidies to attract investors, Hooda said Haryana is pushing investors away, which will only worsen the unemployment crisis in the state and hurt the youth.

Responding to media queries, Hooda called the BJP’s treatment of Kaushal Karmis the biggest betrayal. He alleged that the BJP misled these skilled workers with promises before the elections, including an announcement to regularise 1.25 lakh temporary employees.

However, after winning the elections, the party began systematically removing these workers from their jobs. Hooda claimed that hundreds of such employees are being sacked daily, contrary to the BJP’s earlier assurances.

On the matter of the Hisar airport, Hooda accused the BJP of deliberately stalling the project, which had received central government approval in 2013-14 during the Congress tenure.

He said the BJP has delayed its construction for 11 years, using multiple rounds of symbolic inaugurations to mislead the public. He criticized the repeated inauguration events by different officials—including the Chief Minister, Union Minister, and now the Prime Minister—as political gimmicks.

Hooda also referenced the delay in other key projects, such as the Yamunanagar Power Plant and the Kharkhoda Maruti Plant, both of which he claimed were cleared during the Congress era but have seen slow progress under the BJP.

Commenting on the recently introduced Waqf Amendment Bill, he said the legislation was rushed and that the government should have consulted all parties and stakeholders before bringing it forward.
