A six-member BJP panel visited Amritsar on Sunday to investigate the recent attempt to vandalise a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The team included Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh police chief Brij Lal, BJP's Scheduled Caste Morcha president Lal Singh Arya, and former Union minister Som Parkash. They paid floral tributes to Ambedkar’s statue before addressing the media.
Lal strongly condemned the incident, calling it unacceptable. Criticising AAP leaders, he said neither Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal nor Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the site after the attack.

"Kejriwal only spreads lies. He is against the Constitution and Baba Saheb," Lal alleged, adding that the act appeared to be part of a conspiracy. He also expressed doubts about a fair investigation under the AAP government, claiming there was "jungle raj" in Punjab.
The panel, which also includes BJP spokesperson Guruprakash Paswan, Uttar Pradesh minister Aseem Arun, and BJP leader Banto Dev Kataria, will submit its report soon. Police arrested Akash Singh from Moga district on January 26 for allegedly attempting to damage the statue at Town Hall on Heritage Street, which leads to the Golden Temple.
A viral video showed him climbing the statue with a steel ladder and repeatedly hitting it with a hammer. The Constitution book, which is part of the statue, was also damaged.
