Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and senior leader Sat Sharma (CA) on Monday filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections at the Srinagar office of the Returning Officer, amid a show of party strength.
The nomination filing is part of the BJP’s official process for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, where Sharma is being fielded as the party’s candidate from the Union Territory.
On the other hand, a tussle over the seat-sharing agreement between Congress and the National Conference (NC) has intensified after Congress decided not to field their candidate for the risky seat.
Following Congress’s announcement on Sunday evening, the National Conference (NC) has decided to nominate its spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar, as its candidate, said party sources.
Sources also said Dar is likely to be fielded for the contentious seat, where the ruling alliance holds 24 votes compared to the BJP’s 28.
Dar is a journalism graduate from Kashmir University’s class of 2005. He is the son of NC leader Ghulam Nabi Dar, who was killed in a grenade attack during an NC procession in South Kashmir in 2006.
Five people, including Dar’s father, lost their lives in the attack, while senior NC leader Sakina Ittoo escaped unhurt.
Dar contested his first Assembly election in 2014 but did not participate in the recent assembly polls held in 2024, after NC extended support to CPI(M) in the Kulgam segment.
