Averting a major mishap, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s bomb disposal squad successfully defused three RPG shells that were found in Jammu’s Narwal area on Wednesday. No injuries or damages were reported from the incident.
Security forces have been keeping high vigil across the Union Territory since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the consequent Operation Sindoor.
While further details are awaited, there have been reports of raids being carried out by Indian armed forces and intelligence agencies in different locations of Jammu and Kashmir in an effort to uncover various terror-support networks.
On May 23, in a significant operation targeting the terror ecosystem in Jammu province, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out coordinated raids at 18 locations across four districts, resulting in the recovery of substantial incriminating material, an official statement from the Jammu and Kashmir police said.
Specialised SIA teams that were supported by the local police and magistrates carried out carefully-planned raids, as part of the agency’s ongoing campaign to target sleeper cells and terror networks in the region.
Of the 18 locations raided, 12 were in Surankote subdivision and three in Haveli tehsil of Poonch district. Additional operations were carried out at one location each in Rajouri town (Rajouri district), Ramnagar (Udhampur district), and Ramban.
The incriminating material seized from these locations has been secured in accordance with established legal protocols and is currently under detailed scrutiny, while further investigation is underway. Several suspects have been summoned to join the investigation at SIA Jammu.
These actions follow the development of actionable intelligence and inputs gathered during the SIA’s sustained efforts to neutralise terror-support structures operating covertly within Jammu province.
