The ongoing restrictions in Ladakh have created immense hardships for tourists and travellers who are stranded in the UT after violent protests last week.
The tourism industry was the first major sector hit by the ongoing restrictions, triggering mass cancellations after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
An indefinite curfew was imposed in Leh town on September 24 after clashes during a shutdown called by representative bodies of Ladakh over statehood and Sixth Schedule demands.
The ongoing severe restrictions have seen massive cancellations of bookings in the region, causing immense hardships to both owners and travellers.
Hotel owners have appealed to the administration to ease the curfew-like restrictions, which are hampering their business operations in the UT.
Transporters have also expressed similar concerns, saying that after the Pahalgam attack, Ladakh’s tourism industry is facing a serious setback for the second time within a span of months.
Tourists stranded in the region said they were confined to their hotels and unable to visit key attractions.
Some international travellers also voiced concerns over the restrictions. A female tourist from Vietnam said, “Upon my arrival here, to my shock, I found that everything was closed. I could not even exchange my currency or buy food. I was planning some sightseeing in Pangong Lake, but I failed to get the permit.”
