The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a meeting on Thursday at Petrapole in North 24 Parganas to improve cooperation and coordination along the India-Bangladesh border.
This meeting came after objections raised by the BGB regarding BSF’s fencing work in Sukdevpur, Malda. BSF sources said the discussions were focused on fostering a positive relationship between the two forces.
Key officials at the meeting included BSF South Bengal Frontier Inspector General Maninder PS Pawar and BGB Brigadier General Mohammad Humayun Kabir. Pawar highlighted the need for mutual cooperation, while Kabir assured BGB’s commitment to resolving border issues amicably.
According to a statement from the BSF, the meeting covered several important topics, including effective border management, preventing illegal crossings, combating cross-border crimes, and ensuring peace and security in the region.
The fencing work in Sukdevpur, which had been briefly stopped earlier this week due to BGB’s claim that it was being conducted on Bangladeshi land, resumed after the issue was resolved through dialogue.
Meanwhile, the BSF dismissed as false a recent claim by a BGB official in Bangladeshi media that a five-kilometer stretch of Indian land had been taken over by Bangladesh. The BSF called the claim baseless and irresponsible.
