Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati announced on Sunday that her party will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections on its own. The decision was made after a two-day high-level review meeting where the party finalised a roadmap for its organisational programmes.

In a post on X, Mayawati stated that she held discussions with senior office-bearers on candidate selection and overall election preparedness. She added that party programmes, including 'yatras' and public meetings, are scheduled to begin early next month and will be conducted under her direct supervision.

Special responsibility for these initiatives has been given to the BSP’s national coordinator Akash Anand, Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam, and the party's Bihar unit. Mayawati had previously expelled her nephew, Akash Anand, from all party posts in March but reinstated him in April after he issued a public apology, a month before appointing him as the party's chief national coordinator.

Mayawati said that the state has been divided into three zones, with senior leaders assigned separate charge of each. She also instructed party functionaries to rectify any shortcomings and work with full dedication to achieve better results in Bihar.

Citing the party's preparations and the rapidly changing political climate in the state, BSP leaders assured their chief that the party would perform better in the upcoming elections. Mayawati also used the meeting to review party-building efforts in Odisha and Telangana, where organisational committees have been formed on the Uttar Pradesh model, right down to the polling booth level.
