Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched a sharp attack on opposition parties on Wednesday, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the state’s progress under BJP rule. Speaking at a government function in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, Saha quipped that opposition leaders may need "cataract surgeries" to recognise the visible development that has taken place since the BJP assumed power in 2018.
He said development initiatives had significantly accelerated over the past few years, yet the opposition continues to deny any progress.
The Chief Minister took aim at the CPI(M) for what he called their disruptive behavior during the recent Assembly Budget session. He alleged that the party deliberately distorted a statement made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, which allegedly referred to the caste of Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury.
The controversy led to the CPI(M) walking out of the session, despite Saha’s repeated appeals for constructive debate. He criticised the CPI(M)'s approach as persistently negative and unwilling to engage in meaningful discussion.

Saha further took a dig at the growing alliance between the CPI(M) and the Congress, likening their political partnership to the plot of the Bollywood film Ek Duje Ke Liye, which tells the story of an unlikely and doomed romance.
He questioned how two parties with such differing ideologies could work together and accused the Congress of allying with a party responsible for what he described as a violent and oppressive 25-year rule in Tripura.
He also lauded the recently presented state budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, describing it as a reflection of Tripura’s comprehensive growth under BJP leadership. Saha reiterated his government’s commitment to inclusive development, while asserting that the opposition continues to ignore the tangible improvements taking place across sectors in the state.
