The Centre has approved a Rs 1,359 crore project for four-laning the Nagaur-Bikaner stretch of National Highway-62 in Rajasthan, a move expected to strengthen connectivity and spur economic growth in the state's western region.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, the project will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and is aimed at improving transportation infrastructure between Nagaur and Bikaner.

The approval comes amid efforts by the Rajasthan government to expand and modernise the state's road network. The project is expected to provide smoother and safer travel while reducing transportation bottlenecks along the key highway corridor.

Officials said the four-laning of the NH-62 stretch would improve regional connectivity and create fresh opportunities for investment and employment. Enhanced road infrastructure is also expected to support industrial development and strengthen tourism-related activities in western Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed the approval and said it reflected the commitment of the Centre and the state government towards infrastructure development.

“Expansion of a modern, safe and efficient road network is being continuously prioritised in the state,” Sharma said.

He said the project would inject new momentum into economic activities in Nagaur, Bikaner and neighbouring areas, while contributing to the state's broader development goals.

The chief minister added that improved connectivity would facilitate the movement of goods and people, helping businesses and local communities alike.

The NH-62 project is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade highway infrastructure across Rajasthan, with the state seeking to improve connectivity between major urban centres and emerging economic hubs.

Officials expect the project to play a key role in supporting long-term economic growth and regional development once completed.
