With tensions escalating between India and Pakistan, the Chamba Police has issued a precautionary advisory to gram panchayat pradhans, panchayat representatives, and secretaries across the district, urging heightened vigilance and ensuring public preparedness at the grassroots level.
In a statement released on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav instructed local authorities to ensure that residents stay alert and avoid unnecessary exposure, especially during night hours. Residents have been advised to switch off household lights after dark, especially during air raid siren wirings, and to either turn off or cover street lights and other major illumination sources with black cloth to reduce visibility during potential aerial threats.
The advisory also warns against sharing sensitive information with unknown or suspicious individuals, especially regarding key institutions, strategic locations or infrastructure in the area. Any sightings of unfamiliar or suspicious persons should be reported to the nearest police station without delay, the Chamba Superintendent of Police added.
Residents have also been urged to prepare basic emergency kits, including medicines, first-aid items, torches, cash, and bottled water to be ready for any sudden requirement.
Reiterating the police department’s commitment to public safety, SP Yadav said, “In case of any emergency or information, citizens are encouraged to contact their nearest police station or reach out via the helpline number +91 94188 67360.”
