A complete blackout has been ordered in Haryana’s Ambala district from 8 am to 6 pm on Friday, as a precautionary measure amid heightened tensions with Pakistan and intelligence inputs suggesting a potential air strike threat.
Residents have been directed to turn off all sources of light, including those powered by inverters and generators. The use of outdoor lighting, illuminated signboards, billboard lights, and any form of external illumination has been strictly prohibited during this period.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances and intelligence inputs indicating a potential air strike threat from Pakistan, it is imperative to ensure a complete blackout during night hours to safeguard public safety and strategic interests,” the official order stated.
Authorities have urged full public cooperation to minimise visibility and enhance safety during the high-alert window.
In Chandigarh, an alert was issued late Thursday evening by the Air Force Station warning of a possible aerial attack. Air raid sirens were sounded in parts of the city, prompting immediate response from the administration.
The Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner released an emergency advisory urging residents to remain indoors, avoid balconies and open areas, and switch off all lights. Police patrols have been intensified, and emergency services placed on high alert.
Meanwhile, the adjoining Mohali district also issued a precautionary advisory, particularly targeting sectors bordering Chandigarh.
“There is an alert in some areas of UT Chandigarh. We are advising Mohali residents in bordering sectors as well to remain indoors and away from windows and glass panes,” said a Mohali administration official.
Residents in all affected areas have been asked to stay indoors, draw curtains, and maintain a low profile until further notice.
