Chandigarh lab helped confirm Pahalgam attackers: Amit Shah

Shah told Parliament that a quick forensic test done in Chandigarh helped confirm the identity of the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack.

Chandigarh lab helped confirm Pahalgam attackers, said Home Minister Amit Shah.

A special midnight flight was sent to Chandigarh with weapons seized from the three terrorists killed in Srinagar’s Dachigam on July 28, Union Home Minister Amit Shah told Parliament on Tuesday. Within just 24 hours, scientists confirmed through ballistics tests that these weapons were used in the Pahalgam attack, helping establish the terrorists' direct involvement.

Amit Shah shared this during a discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha. He said that the three terrorists — Sulaiman, Afghani, and Jibran — were killed in "Operation Mahadev," a joint operation carried out by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday.

The minister said Sulaiman was a top Lashkar commander, and security agencies had clear evidence linking him to the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. Afghani and Jibran were also “A-listed” terrorists. “I want to tell Parliament and the nation that those who murdered our citizens in the Baisaran valley, these three were among them and they were killed,” he said, praising the security forces for their success.

Shah said he reached Srinagar just a few hours after the Pahalgam attack and held a security meeting there. “We ensured that the terrorists could not escape to Pakistan,” he said.

He explained how the government verified that the three killed terrorists were indeed involved in the Pahalgam attack. “The NIA had earlier arrested those who had sheltered these terrorists. When their bodies were brought to Srinagar, we got them to identify the bodies,” he further added.

To be absolutely certain they were the Pahalgam attackers, Shah said forensic tests were done on the bullet shells found at the attack site.

“After these terrorists were killed, their rifles were seized. One was an M9, the other two were AK-47s. We got these rifles flown to the Chandigarh Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) on a special plane. We generated empty bullet shells by firing these rifles and then matched them with those found in Pahalgam. It was then confirmed that these three rifles were used to murder our innocent civilians,” Shah said.
