The budget session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly is set to commence on Monday. The session will be a crucial one, as the state government will present the budget for the financial year 2025-26 during this period.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Speaker Raman Singh provided an overview of the session's schedule and key legislative proceedings.

He announced that the session would begin with the Governor of Chhattisgarh, Ramen Deka, delivering his address to the House at 11:05 am on Monday. This address will outline the government's policy direction and legislative priorities for the upcoming financial year.

Key dates and legislative agenda

Following the Governor’s address, discussions on the motion of thanks will be conducted over two days, on February 27 and 28. This debate allows members of the Legislative Assembly to discuss the contents of the Governor’s speech and provide their perspectives on the government's proposed agenda.

One of the most significant events of the session will be the presentation of the state budget for 2025-26, which is scheduled for March 3. State Finance Minister OP Chaudhary will present the budget document, detailing the government's revenue and expenditure plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

In addition to the annual budget, the third supplementary budget for the financial year 2024-25 will be tabled in the House on the opening day of the session, i.e., February 26. A discussion on this supplementary budget is scheduled for February 25, before its official presentation in the Assembly.

The session will consist of 17 sittings and is scheduled to conclude on March 21.

Speaker Raman Singh also highlighted the significant volume of legislative business that will be taken up during the session. A total of 2,367 notices of questions have been received from legislators, of which 1,220 are starred questions, requiring an oral response, and 1,147 are un-starred questions, which will receive written responses.

Additionally, 122 notices have been submitted for call attention motions, a parliamentary tool that allows members to draw the government's attention to urgent public issues and seek clarifications.

With an extensive legislative agenda, including discussions on fiscal policies, governance strategies, and opposition concerns, the budget session is expected to witness robust debates and deliberations in the Assembly.
