Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has conducted aerial and ground surveys of flood-affected areas in the state's Bastar and Dantewada districts, where eight lives were lost following heavy rainfall last week.
During his visit, Sai instructed officials to accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts, a government statement confirmed. He stressed that ensuring timely aid to affected families is the state's top priority and warned that "any negligence in relief and rehabilitation work will not be tolerated."
In the aftermath of the flash floods caused by the incessant rains, over 2,000 people were evacuated from low-lying areas in Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, and Bastar districts. Officials have reported that the floods claimed eight lives, killed 96 livestock, and damaged approximately 495 houses, along with 16 culverts and bridges.
While visiting a relief camp in Dantewada’s Chuditikra ward, Sai spoke with evacuees and assured them of the government's full support. He gave specific instructions to local authorities to provide a continuous supply of food, clean drinking water, and secure shelter. The chief minister also reviewed a health camp, inquiring about the availability of medicines and the deployment of medical staff. The government stated that flood-hit families have expressed satisfaction with the swift assistance provided by district officials.
Sai also inspected a flood-damaged bridge to assess the traffic situation and the progress of reconstruction. He ordered officials to ensure the rapid restoration of essential services like roads, electricity, and drinking water in the affected villages.
Later, at a review meeting held at the Dantewada Collectorate, Sai emphasised the need for special care for children, women, and the elderly, and prioritised health and education facilities in both relief camps and villages. He acknowledged that natural calamities pose significant challenges but added that such difficulties can be overcome with swift administrative action and public cooperation.
The chief minister was joined by Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma, MP Mahesh Kashyap, and other senior officials.
