A chilling post-mortem report has revealed the gruesome details of the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar in Chhattisgarh, with the victim suffering multiple violent injuries.
Suresh Chandrakar, the main accused in the crime, was arrested in Hyderabad on Sunday following an intense manhunt.
Mukesh, a 28-year-old journalist working with a local news channel, and associated with NDTV was found dead in a septic tank on January 3, having been missing since the night of January 1.
The autopsy report, released by the medical team, revealed that the victim had 15 fractures to his head, a broken neck, and, most shockingly, his heart had been ripped out.
According to the doctors who conducted the post-mortem, who have over a decade of experience, they had never encountered such brutality in their careers.
"We have never seen such a case in our 12-year-old careers," said a member of the medical team, citing the horrendous nature of the murder.
Doctors also noted that the number of assailants involved was likely to be more than two, due to the extent of the violence.
The discovery of Mukesh’s body has sent shockwaves through the local community, as the murder appears to be a direct retaliation against the journalist for his investigation into Suresh’s alleged corruption.
Mukesh had recently exposed Suresh’s involvement in irregularities concerning a Rs 120-crore road construction project in Bastar, Chhattisgarh.
His investigative work led to an inquiry being initiated by the state government into the contractor’s activities.
Mukesh had been meeting Suresh’s brother, Ritesh Chandrakar, on January 1, when he disappeared.
His phone remained off, prompting Mukesh’s elder brother, Yukesh Chandrakar, to file a missing person report.
The victim’s body was found at Suresh Chandrakar’s property, with authorities immediately suspecting foul play. Following an extensive investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended Suresh in Hyderabad on Sunday after he had been on the run for several days.
Suresh had evaded capture since the discovery of Mukesh’s body, but the SIT’s efforts culminated in his arrest.
Three others, including Suresh’s brothers Ritesh and Dinesh Chandrakar, have already been arrested in connection with the crime.
Suresh’s arrest now brings the investigation closer to understanding the full extent of the murder plot.
