The Pune district child protection officer, Mangesh Jadhav, has formally approached City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to voice serious concerns over the lyrical content of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. In a letter dispatched on Thursday, Jadhav alleged that the artist's repertoire frequently "glorifies alcohol, drugs, and gun culture," and urged the authorities to ensure his upcoming performances remain "socially responsible" and aligned with child protection safeguards.

The move follows a complaint lodged with the Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department by Dr Punditrao Dharenavar, a campaigner from Chandigarh. Jadhav’s letter specifically called out several of Singh’s chart-topping hits — including One Bottle Down, Char Bottle Vodka, and Manali Trance — arguing that such themes could have a detrimental impact on the mental health of minors who attend his live concerts.

Further grievances were raised regarding a recent performance in Mumbai on March 28, part of the rapper’s ‘My Story’ tour. The letter claimed that Singh used "vulgar language" on stage while performing tracks such as 'Millionaire' and 'Dope Shope'. Jadhav has advised the police commissioner to monitor future events closely to ensure the content remains appropriate for all ages and strictly adheres to statutory standards of civility.

This regional scrutiny coincides with a significant legal rebuke from the Delhi High Court. On the same day the letter was sent, the court took a dim view of an old "derogatory" track allegedly released by Honey Singh and Badshah in 2006. Describing the song as being in "complete disregard" of even the most basic standards of public decency, the court ordered its immediate removal from all online platforms. With both the judiciary and local child protection officials now tightening the net, the pressure on the rapper to sanitise his songs appears to be reaching a boiling point.
