CM Atishi takes over Gahlot’s departments after his exit

All the departments handled by Kailash Gahlot who quit the Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Sunday will remain with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, a statement from the Delhi CMO said.

Kailash Gahlot resigned from AAP over concerns about the party's direction, and CM Atishi accepted his resignation ahead of the 2025 assembly polls.

All departments previously managed by Kailash Gahlot, who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, will remain under Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, according to a statement from the Delhi CMO.

Gahlot, who oversaw Transport, Administrative Reforms, Information & Technology, Home, and Women & Child Development, also stepped down from the AAP.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated that Gahlot was compelled to resign due to an allegation of Rs 112 crore levelled by the BJP and multiple raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence in recent days.

“Kailash Gahlot’s resignation is part of the BJP’s dirty politics and conspiracy. The BJP government conducted ED raids and income tax raids at his residence for several days. Under this pressure, with the Rs 112 crore allegation hanging over him, he had no option but to join the BJP,” Singh said.

Earlier today, Gahlot resigned from AAP, citing serious concerns about the party’s current direction and internal issues.

He stated that political ambitions within the party had begun to eclipse its core mission of public service. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Atishi accepted Gahlot’s resignation, which comes ahead of the 2025 assembly elections in the National Capital.

In his resignation letter, Gahlot criticised the party’s shift from advocating for public rights to pursuing its own political agenda, a change that he claimed has limited AAP’s ability to deliver essential services to Delhi’s residents.
