Former Himachal Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has strongly flayed the state government. He said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was allegedly spending crores on a one-day celebration in Mandi while people in disaster-affected villages were still struggling.
He asked the Chief Minister to visit Kuklah village near Pandoh, just 20 km from the Paddal Ground rally venue, to see the real situation months after the monsoon damage.
The former Himachal CM, who met families hit by the disaster in Kuklah, said even five months after the June 29 floods swept away the Baglamukhi temple road and the Kalhani–Kashaud road and bridge, the government had still not set up a temporary Bailey bridge. He said residents of 15 panchayats in Mid-Seraj continued to walk long distances with essential supplies because the road had not been restored.
He asked officials to fix the route within a week and to build a temporary crossing so that vehicles could pass. Thakur said rehabilitation work had been ignored and villagers were still depending on makeshift paths and ropeway systems.
He accused Sukhu and his ministers of “boasting without understanding the ground reality” and questioned holding celebrations when disaster victims were still waiting for help. He also said the Chief Minister had not visited other badly affected areas such as Kullu, Banjar, Larji, Sainj and several parts of Mandi, where many villages had suffered heavy destruction.
