Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led key discussions with the 16th Finance Commission delegation, headed by Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya, to determine the state’s share of grants and taxes for the upcoming five-year period.

The high-level meeting, held at the Secretariat in Dehradun, saw senior State officials presenting Uttarakhand’s financial priorities and developmental needs.

The visit by the Finance Commission is considered pivotal in shaping the fiscal roadmap that will support the State’s long-term planning and budgeting for the next five years.

As part of the deliberations, the State government made a comprehensive presentation detailing requirements across various sectors. The Commission team includes members Annie George Mathew, Manoj Panda, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Ritwik Pandey (commission secretary), joint secretary KK Mishra, and joint director P. Amruthavarshini.

Following the meeting with the Chief Minister and state officials, the Finance Commission is scheduled to hold consultations with representatives from municipal bodies, panchayats, and political parties. The discussions aim to finalise the financial distribution framework that will impact the States' budgets and development plans for the upcoming five-year period.

The 16th Finance Commission team arrived in Dehradun on Sunday and was received with a traditional welcome, including the ceremonial beats of Dhol Damau. Chief Minister Dhami personally greeted the delegation, underscoring the significance of their visit in ensuring Uttarakhand secures a fair and adequate share of national resources for its future growth.

This engagement marks a critical step toward aligning the State’s financial aspirations with the central fiscal framework for the next five years.
