Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of veteran Akali leader and former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who passed away at a private hospital in Mohali at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.
In his condolence message, CM Mann remembered Dhindsa as a key figure in Punjab politics, acknowledging his relentless efforts for public welfare. He extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Political leaders recalled Dhindsa as a stalwart of Punjab politics, a dedicated public servant, and a respected voice for Sikh and farmer issues.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, despite recent differences with Dhindsa, called his passing a “personal loss” and fondly remembered him as a mentor during his formative political years.
Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, BJP’s Sunil Jakhar, and several MPs and MLAs from various parties also expressed condolences, recognising Dhindsa’s decades-long contributions to governance and public service.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon. Dhindsa’s son, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, is a former Punjab Finance Minister and currently serves as an MLA from Lehra.
