Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and President of the National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah have expressed condolences on the passing of the former Jharkhand CM & MP of Rajya Sabha, Shibu Soren.
In a post on X, the office of the CM wrote, “Very sorry to hear about the tragic demise of former CM of Jharkhand & MP Rajya Sabha Sh #ShibuSoren Sb. May his soul rest in peace. I convey my heartfelt condolences to @HemantSorenJMM Sb, his family & colleagues.”
The NC president, during his media interaction here at Srinagar, told reporters that “Shibu Soren was a great leader. Coming from a humble background, Soren showed the determination to change the future of the Jharkhand state.”
“Despite his struggles, he proved what a determined mind could achieve, as he becames MP and chief minister of the state,” Farooq said while praising the late JMM leader.
Farooq praised his contribution and said “He did all possible things to see that the poor and struggling class are brought out of poverty. Today, with his passing, it saddens us; the nation continues to lose good leaders… He even faced jail and came out much stronger… Today his son is following his path to remove poverty in Jharkhand.”
Former chief minister and leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren, passed away after a prolonged illness at the age of 81 on Monday morning in New Delhi.
Shibu Soren led the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for 38 years and is known as the founding patron of the party. He served thrice as CM of Jharkhand in 2005, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010.
Over a four-decade career in politics, Soren was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times and served as a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms.
