A Congress leader in Thiruvananthapuram has filed a complaint with the state police chief and city police commissioner, calling for a probe against CPM MLA and former Minister Kadakampally Surendran. Allegations of sexual misconduct were made by the primary accused in the gold smuggling case, Swapna Suresh, which has led to the complaint.

M Muneer, the former president of the Pothencode Block panchayat, filed the complaint on August 29, just two days after the Crime Branch booked Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil for stalking and criminal intimidation.

Muneer's complaint draws on allegations Suresh made during a series of television interviews. He stated that although the claims are of a serious nature, the police had not taken any action at the time. The complaint quotes Suresh, who alleged that Kadakampally had sent her lewd messages over the phone. It also references a voice clip in which Kadakampally is said to be speaking in an inappropriate manner to an unnamed woman.

Muneer insisted that the police should contact the women mentioned in the complaint and take their statements as part of the investigation. He also quoted the Chief Minister, who has previously stated that even if survivors do not approach the police, a case will be filed based on complaints.

In 2022, the Congress party had called for a police investigation into allegations Suresh had made against three CPM leaders, including Kadakampally Surendran. The Congress had claimed that the state government was of double standards following the registration of a case against Congress MLA Eldose Kunnapillil, while allegations against CPM leaders were not looked into.
